Abstract

This research aims to understand the Black identities and theatricalities present in Mestre Apolônio’s Bumba-meu-boi da Floresta, based on an investigation that privileges Afro-diasporic influences. It discusses theoretical and conceptual aspects related to the presence of ancestry in its multiple nuances, as reflected in the theatrical elements that emerge from rehearsals to public performances. The study is guided by the principles of Ethnoscenology, seeking to understand artistic processes that dialogue with specific practices and aesthetics of theatre, while highlighting the intersection between popular tradition and performative creation. In this sense, the research considers the Bumba-meu-boi da Floresta as a field of memory, corporeality, ancestry and scenic expression, in which Black identities are produced, transmitted and renewed through collective experience.
