Among caregivers, 44.8% did not present overload, 41.8% mild to moderate overload, 12.7% moderate to severe overload and 0.7% presented severe overload. It is concluded that the sociodemographic characteristics, gender and degree of kinship were directly associated with the level of burden, caregivers who had to leave their professional activities felt more burdened and caregivers who had comorbidities after the exercise of care and took medications also showed a greater burden. The help received for caring is associated with the level of burden of family caregivers, with support and the distribution of tasks among family members being determinant for reducing these levels. These results reinforce the need for nursing actions aimed at the caregiver, aiming at reducing the burden, providing the caregiver with the opportunity to provide better quality care for their family member.", publisher = {Universidade Federal do Maranhão}, scholl = {PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM ENFERMAGEM/CCBS}, note = {DEPARTAMENTO DE ENFERMAGEM/CCBS} }
