A violência doméstica e familiar contra a mulher em Imperatriz-MA e as narrativas dos homens autores sobre suas condutas

Abstract

The present study analyzed the phenomenon of domestic and family violence against women, practiced by men from the perspective of the aggressor's justifications. To this end, their interrogations produced at the police headquarters, at the Specialized Police Station for Assistance to Women of Imperatriz/MA, were examined. In a second moment, the meaning of the research shifted from the office to the meetings held at the Center for Assistance to the Perpetrator of Domestic Violence. Methodologically, this research was developed through a qualitative approach, with some articulations between the two main approaches of Social Sciences: qualitative and quantitative, when necessary. In the field, the ethnographic method, participant observation and ethnomethodology were used. To substantiate the analysis of interrogations and the understanding of the phenomenon of domestic violence, a broad bibliographical research was used in works that deal with gender and masculinities, with emphasis on the authors Connel and Pearse, Patrícia Hill Collins, bell hooks, Kimmel , Judith Butler, Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí, in addition to works that deal with violence against women, specifically, on the national scene, such as the authors Heleieth Saffioti (2011) and Miriam Grossi (1994). In the research, it was possible to verify that the narratives of male perpetrators of violence, whether in the context of the police station or in the service center for perpetrators of domestic violence, are marked by justifications supported by the patriarchal system and gender performances. Thus, although state institutions work to combat domestic violence against women, the logic of the system itself justifies and adapts it so that dominations persist unchanged, adding, then, oppressions related to gender, race and social class.
