Vozes que não se calam e não se esquecem: representações da guerra civil em Moçambique através da obra Neighbours, de Lília Momplé. (1976-1992)

Abstract

This dissertation aims to understand the nuances of the Civil War in Mozambique based on the literary narrative of the author Lília Momplé, in Neighbours, making a brief dialogue with the colonial context, as well as the years that formed the armed struggle and independence, also associated with the path lived by the writer and literature itself as an important space for pondering the civil war. Thus, literature becomes a privileged source of access to the imaginaries and representations of the conflict, the social erasure of the war and also the attempt to erase the memory of war. Since it was chosen to consider the temporalities and spatialities of the author to shed light on Mozambican historicity, appropriating theoretical-methodological resources that subscribe to the place of production of the author, as well as the reconfiguration of the collective memory translated in her discourse. Through its narratives, Lília Momplé's novel allows the reader to identify the political and social scenario of Mozambique after colonialism and, in the same way, how the apartheid movement in South Africa crossed borders, directly intervening in the social, political and economic dynamics during the Civil War. This resource also made it possible to identify subjects within the history of Mozambique, especially those whose voices were silenced and erased by official history. The Civil Wars, which lasted for 16 years, controlled private lives and bodies that were violated by a system built on the foundations of Portuguese colonialism. Therefore, the objective is to understand how Lília Momplé, through her novel Neighbours, brings important elements of the process and development of the Civil War (1976-1992) in Mozambique, led by the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and the National Resistance of Mozambique (RENAMO), since she lived in this scenario of tension and instability in its multiple aspects.
