Tramas de vidas e saberes: entrelaçamentos de narrativas para designs outros em uma comunidade de artesãs de fibra de buriti

Abstract

In the community of Boa Vista, located in Barreirinhas (MA), the artisanal practice with buriti fiber is a know-how passed down from generation to generation and is sustained through a web that intertwines the lifelines of the artisans, the buriti palm trees, the things and the community itself. With the growth of the tourism sector and real estate

speculation in the region, there was an increase in national visibility around the know- how. At the same time, these processes directly affected the relationships, modes of

production and local ecologies, leading to the precariousness of production, the devastation of buriti palm plantations and the scarcity of raw materials. Therefore, this work presents the research processes that aim to analyze how designanthropology can contribute to the materialization, safeguarding and transformation of the narratives that permeate the other designs of the buriti fiber artisans of the Boa Vista community. As a field of analysis, it is oriented towards the following processes: storytelling, which covers the stages of approaching the field and the staging of a tourist circuit; and creation of narratives, which addresses participation in craft workshops promoted by artisans and the production of design objects. These actions highlight the autonomy of artisans in the production of their specific ways of making design, which we call other designs here. This is a research based on the approaches of designanthropology and participatory design. Through correspondence practices, the aim is to cultivate attention and the ability to respond to what emerges from the encounter with otherness in the field. In addition, the research focuses on the entanglement of the various narratives that permeate the investigative process: the narratives of the artisans, the theoretical-methodological framework and the narrative constructed on the research. Finally, the work presents reflections on the intertwining between narratives in correspondence processes. Through the narratives, it is evident that know-how is reproduced from the mutuality between various paths of making the world, being a situated phenomenon understood as a form of generating work and income, of emotional elaboration, of collective mobilization in the community and as another way of relating to nature.
