FEMINISMO E ENGAJAMENTO MILITANTE: PERFIS E REPERTÓRIOS DE LIDERANÇAS DO FÓRUM MARANHENSE DE MULHERES

Abstract

This work is part of the research line of the Laboratory for Studies on Political and Cultural Elites (LEEPOC/UFMA), which investigates the modes of insertion and performance of women who assume spokesperson roles in the political and cultural domains. More specifically, this dissertation analyzes the conditions for the emergence and consolidation of the feminist cause in Maranhão, focusing on the trajectories of five agents who serve as leaders of the Maranhão Women's Forum. To this end, we examine the historical, social, and institutional contexts that enabled the strengthening of the feminist movement in the state from the 1980s onward, highlighting the profiles, political, academic, religious, and cultural engagements, as well as the causes championed by the studied protagonists. Thus, the investigation combines historical, sociographic, and biographical analysis, mapping events, social characteristics, and investments (activist, marital, educational, and professional) from a relational perspective. Based on this, we first observe the relationship between the Movimento Mulheres da Ilha (Women of the Island Movement), the mobilizations promoted by the Catholic Church, and the construction of interpersonal networks, which contributed to the articulation of Maranhão’s feminism. Second, following the leads of Reis and Grill (2023), we identify the juxtapositions between different social domains, as well as the conditions for the attainment of multi-notability by these intermediaries in the state.
