TROCADOS E BAILADOS DE SÃO GONÇALO: Um glossário da terminologia do Baile de São Gonçalo, em São Luís - MA

Abstract

This research, which was carried out as part of the Academic Master’s Degree in Letras/PGLetras/UFMA, aimed to produce a glossary of the terminological universe of the Baile of São Gonçalo, in São Luís-MA, which takes place, more specifically, in the communities of Bairro de Fátima, Primavera Bom Jesus, Residencial Paraíso, Vila Bacanga and Vila Embratel, from the perspective, especially, of Cultural Terminology. The Baile of São Gonçalo was chosen as the object of this investigation because it is a manifestation of recognized religious and cultural Methodologically, to fulfill this objective, we divided the research into two main stages: I) bibliographic research: reading the theoretical framework of the Baile of São Gonçalo in Maranhão and Brazil, the Communicative Theory of Terminology (Cabré, 1993, 1999, 2002, 2006, 2016; Krieger, 2000; Krieger and Finatto, 2004, 2023; Oliveira and Isquerdo, 2001; Sager, 1993), and Cultural Terminology (Diki-Kidiri, 2009); II) field research: preparation and application of a terminology questionnaire made up of 45 questions divided into the following semantic fields: social interaction and behavior, territoriality and culture, food and drink, dance, music and instruments, clothing and accessories; research participant form with questions about personal data and participation in the Baile of São Gonçalo activities; and the Free and Informed Consent Form (TCLE). For the collection of oral data, through conversations and recorded interviews, twelve male and female collaborators were selected, representing each of the five groups surveyed, distributed among the following roles performed at the Baile: 1 promisor, 1 guide, 3 dancers. representativeness in Maranhão. Afterwards, the oral data was transcribed graphematically, manually and using the Sonix Ai and Blip ViraTexto software. To survey and process the 56 terms that make up the terminological glossary of the Baile of São Gonçalo, the AntConc software was used, which is a corpus analysis tool widely used in corpus linguistics in the area of Terminology. The relevance of this work is marked by the importance of this cultural manifestation in Maranhão and the scarcity of research in the state, especially from a terminological perspective, of the Bailes of São Gonçalo groups derived from migrants from the Baixada Maranhense, which reveals the particularities of the ethnic-cultural, historical, religious and organizational roots of resistance of these groups. Finally, it is hoped that this study will contribute to the preservation and dissemination of the Baile de São Gonçalo as a cultural manifestation that is distinctly Maranhão/Brazilian, both in social and academic circles, to the historicity of the communities researched, that it will encourage research about the Baile of São Gonçalo in various other locations of the state of Maranhão and the country in various aspects, and that it will strengthen terminological research in the state of Maranhão and in Brazil, especially on manifestations of popular culture.
