Abstract: This dissertation analyzes, from an archaeogenealogical perspective, the discursive production
of travestis and transsexual women as killable subjectivities in journalistic statements about
their murders in the media of the state of Maranhão, understanding such production as an
effect of historically situated processes of subjectivation. It is organized around the
problematization of the press as an operator of the dispositif of killability (or apparatus of
killability), a concept proposed in this dissertation through the articulation of Agamben's
expanded apparatus and his notions of homo sacer and bare life; Mbembe's necropolitics; and
Butler's ungrievable lives. In this trajectory, we seek to understand the ways in which news
routines, newsworthiness crieteria and source hierarchies produce effects of truth that
naturalize violence against dissident bodies and position them outside the field of
recognizability and grievability. The corpus comprises 12 digital news articles from the state
of Maranhão, published between 2020 and 2023, with priority given to the newspaper O
Imparcial, alongside a broader archive of 88 articles used for the historicization of discourse
and comparative analysis across periods. The analysis mobilizes Foucauldian categories
(discourse, statement, discursive formation, dispositif, interdiction and archive) in dialogue
with Butler's gender performativity and norms of recognition, Preciado's
pharmacopornopolitics, and Mbembe's necropolitics. The findings reveal three historical
operators of the dispositif of killability (the church, medicine and the media), describe how
crime journalism fabricates killable bodies through the serial regularity of dehumanizing
frames, and identify, in the breaches of the archive, counter-hegemonic discursive practices
that challenge normative regimes and open other possibilities of existence for LGBTQI+
bodies.

Abstract: This study aimed to identify the occurrence of lexicon in the Jenipapo quilombo community,
located in the rural area of the municipality of Caxias, in Maranhão. To this end, studies by
Abbade (2011), Biderman (2001), Bosi (2006), Grimes (1996), Mattoso (1982), Sapir (1961),
and Vilela (1997) were used. Interviews were conducted in the community with twelve
participants, who answered a questionnaire divided into five semantic fields: dance, religion,
quilombola identity, traditional healing, and racism. The interviews were recorded and then
transcribed in Word; shortly thereafter, the material was entered into AntConc, which selected
the lexias belonging to the corpus in order to understand the principles of modern lexicography.
These lexias were then analyzed based on research conducted in the Aurélio Dictionary, the
Brazilian Encyclopedia of the African Diaspora, and the Houaiss Dictionary. In this research,
54 lexias were identified, 6 of which were dictionary entries but had a different meaning from
that provided by the informant (LDAD), 30 dictionary entries with equivalent meanings
(LDAE), and 18 non-dictionary entries (LND). These results contribute to exploring and
expanding knowledge of lexias belonging to the Jenipapo community, given the importance of
the oral records found in this study, as they present forms of expression that are often absent or
underrepresented in traditional lexicographic collections. Therefore, the occurrence of this
lexical set expands knowledge about uniqueness and, at the same time, creates an intersection
between the speech of the Jenipapo community and the dictionaries researched, recognizing
local knowledge as indispensable forms of linguistic and cultural construction.

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the visual modes present in disinformation about universities,
along with the related comments, in order to understand how imagery contributes to the
process of associating information with the idea of truth, as well as the implications of its use.
Based on this objective, four specific goals were established: (I) to identify the visual modes
used in the construction of disinformation about universities; (II) to examine how visual
modes are organized within disinformation to construct meaning, based on the analytical
framework proposed by the Grammar of Visual Design (GVD); (III) to understand how the
visual modes present in disinformation interact with the written mode to produce meaning;
and (IV) to investigate the implications of the use of visual modes in disinformation,
considering sensitivity to initial conditions, based on the analysis of users’ comments on posts
containing disinformation. For this purpose, the study draws on Wardle and Derakhshan
(2023) to discuss information disorder and disinformation; on Morin (2011) and LarsenFreeman and Cameron (2008) to address Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS); and on Hodge
and Kress (1988) to discuss Social Semiotics (SS). The empirical material consisted of three
disinformation posts about universities that were fact-checked by the agencies AFP, E-farsas,
and Lupa, as well as users’ comments related to these posts. The Grammar of Visual Design
(Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006) was used as an analytical tool. The analysis of the
comments took into account sensitivity to initial conditions, an essential feature of Complex
Adaptive Systems. The results suggest that images play a significant role in meaning-making
within multimodal disinformation compositions, contributing to the construction of an
appearance of truth. Thus, these images mobilize emotions and may reinforce beliefs,
increasing readers’ cognitive fluency and favoring their acceptance of the content.
